Transhumant Merino Wool Blanket

The Terracotta Merino Blanket is woven from transhumant Merino wool, a natural fibre closely linked to one of the Iberian Peninsula's most valuable pastoral and textile traditions. Its craftsmanship pays tribute to the seasonal journeys of Merino flocks along the ancient Cañadas Reales (Royal Drovers' Roads), historic livestock routes that enabled transhumance for centuries and remain an important cultural, environmental and economic heritage.

What does 90 Varas mean?

The name 90 Varas refers to the traditional width of the Royal Drovers' Roads, approximately 75 metres. These historic livestock routes allowed Merino flocks to migrate seasonally between winter and summer grazing lands, helping to preserve ecosystems, biodiversity and a sustainable way of farming that respects the land.
